Homecoming 2008

This year for Homecoming Tanner will be in Cedar City attending the Shakespearean Festival. I met with his Drama Teacher who shared with me his performance should do very well this year. He will have a great time!!! I was hoping the dates wouldn't conflict because he wanted to take "someone" to Homecoming. And that "someone" I really liked!
Jordan and I leave Tuesday for the 2009 Central Pacific Regional Championships!!! Since Cordero is from another regional he will be home with Jason and attending Homecoming. We had a fun weekend helping him with his plans to ask "a someone" to Homecoming. The "someone" loves Audrey Hepburn and thanks to Cordero's mother, she gave a great suggestion. Cordero made a poster of Audrey Hepburn and used a song, highlighting the letters, "Will you go to Homecoming with Me? From Cordero" With helium balloons, he placed it on her doorstep and waited and waited and waited for a response.

Finally, on Sunday when Jason took Cordero out to clean his car, the "someone" came over and said, "YES" in Chinese on the door...Well, I think it's Chinese and I hope it means yes...it seems like much writing to say "yes"...I think Cordero is relieved that Jordan and I will be gone, less embarrassment for him. Don't worry, there is still Missy and Jason to fill in!!!!

Missy in California

Missy is in California and attended the Dodger vs. Giants game in San Francisco with Mom, Cubby and Meagan. They are having a wonderful time. Mom is wearing Dad's famous Dodger jacket. I remember when Dad would take me to the games wearing that jacket. People would boo and hiss and many thought he was Fernando Valenzuela (famous pitcher for the Dodgers in the early 80's) . They Did It!!!!

Awwwww, what a sweet day!!!
When I heard the Diamondbacks lost (thank you Cardinals!), I knew the Dodgers clinched the division. For a moment I felt empty thinking why couldn't my Dad be here now. I could just imagine the numerous phone calls all week long, talking to him game after game. I thought of my brother and how much they would have enjoyed October together. Oh, it made me miss him so much...but just for a moment. I know my Dad has the best seat in the stands and is one of the angels in the outfield.

Another Crazy Week

Many of my friends do not have teenagers. They often post on their blogs sweet, adorable photos of their darling, innocent children. I enjoy reading their adventures and reminiscing how much I miss that stage of life. All I can say right now is #*$&%#$*@*## when it comes to raising teenagers!!! They make you laugh, cry and feel embarrassed within 10 minutes of their presence. Here is an update of my emotions...

DISAPPOINTED: We almost had him home. He called over the weekend, while we were at a competition in Park City. He was scared, lonely and wanted to come home. We arranged a time to pick him up, only to find out....

ANGRY: he was with his friends and decided to still live with them.

FLABBERGASTED: he later shares with us how his friends are concerned about some of the kids he has been hanging around, his friends don't approve of his sluffing and were mad when he didn't call them over the weekend! (um, isn't that my job!!! It's these current friends that are the root of so many of his problems.)

SAD: We had parent teacher conference and he is not staying committed to his Senior year and throwing away a 3.0 gpa and baseball.

TEARFUL: Taylor's favorite teacher and I cried together...

EXCITED: Tanner is busy with school play, fall baseball and is leaving next week for Cedar City to attend and participate in the Shakespearean Festival. He loves this!

PROUD: He has worked all summer and purchased new ski's, bindings and boots by himself! For the terrific grades this quarter we are purchasing his season pass to Alta.

PUZZLED: Conversation during PTC with Tanner...

Teacher: "Tanner I feel you don't like me and the way I teach. Can you please tell me why?"

Tanner: "That is correct, I don't like you. You spend time teaching the problem on the white board and I stay focused to understand your lack of teaching. After you are done explaining you often go back and tell us you taught us the incorrect way. It is very frustrating!"

Me: (My jaw is on the floor!)

Teacher: "Mrs. King, Tanner is correct. I often need to correct myself."

Me: (My jaw is still on the floor!)

*At the quarter he is switching teachers...

ACHING HEART: It hurts dealing with Taylor but the pain just increased watching Tanner miss his brother and try to understand why he is acting this way. It's been very sad the past few days.

AMAZED: Over the weekend Jordan placed 1st in short and long program at a competition in Park City. She received her highest points.

WORRIED: Still having back pain from her laybacks...

EXCITED: We leave next week for Regionals in San Jose and spend the week with my mom.

LOL: Cordero doesn't like to wash the dishes. The family is teaching him how to clean up after a meal.

RELIEVED: He has battled a nasty cold and it's finally getting better.

IMPRESSED: Earning terrific grades with 4 AP classes. I had 21 teachers to visit for PTC ranging from Taylor failing, Tanner talking down to teachers and Cordero excelling! (Tanner is too!)

LOVE: Just happy to end the day in his arms and having him take Tanner to seminary in the morning!!!

Time with Dad!

It was a rare, beautiful, lazy Sunday for the King's...Today was our Regional Conference and yes we should have attended but we didn't. Saturday everyone had their own plans and came home late to share all their adventures with us. We all decided to sleep in, which is very unusual with work, early morning seminary and skating. A few of the kids emerged late in the morning, while I pulled the covers over my head and slept some more. Cordero made himself breakfast and began his homework. Tanner was still not moving out of bed. Jason and Jordan decided to take a drive through the canyon and a small hike to Silver Lake. The weather was wonderful!!! Fall is almost here...Tanner and I finally made our way out of bed. Tanner got up to help Aunt Missy with some errands and I made it downstairs to read the paper. Oh, I just love these days!!! Jordan and Jason had a terrific time together...

Freedom!

The Trooper: Jason and I always wanted to offer our boys a car when they receive their license but to have our support in obtaining a license, they need to earn their Eagle. We have paid off and saved the trooper for the boys to use as their car. Taylor finally received his Eagle when he was 17 and we were ready to give him the keys until he decided not to live at home with us. Next was Tanner, he is just waiting to complete his Eagle Project and turn 16 so the sweet Trooper still waits...Until Cordero arrived with his license!!!

Cordero has mastered the stick shift and is officially driving on his own!

The kids had a great weekend playing at Boondocks...

Tanner and Jordan finally got along and soaked Cordero.

Never a dull expression from Tanner!!!

We played for hours and had a terrific time together! We miss you Taylor!!!

Back Home

Ohhh, it feels good to be back home! We had a nice rain storm the past two days and you can smell the fall weather quickly appoaching us. I love it!!! Cordero and Jordan had another successful competition. On Sunday they both competed their long program. Cordero landed his double axel and finished 3rd overall. We were so proud and excited for him. He came home with a nice trophy! Jordan skated terrific. She placed 7th in her long program and 7th overall. She was very pleased with her results and earning the levels that she wanted. Next competition is in Park City, then off to Regionals. Jordan and I are very excited for Regionals because Grandma is spending the week with us. Our Labor Day was filled with homework, laundry, catching up with Jason and Tanner and of course a quick hour of skating...
